Our Focus

We focus on helping Australian Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

What exactly is an SME?

There is a lot of ambiguity in what defines an SME, even between government agencies like the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and our very own Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS)!

For clarity - we have adopted the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) blended definition of an SME as a combination of both Small Business and Medium Business, whereas:

  • Small Business - an entity employing less than 20 people, and

  • Medium Business - an entity employing between 20 and 199 employees.

Some interesting statistics about SMEs…

  • Small Businesses - represent over 2.2 million businesses in Australia and 97.5% of all Australian businesses, employing 4.7 million people.

  • Medium Businesses - represent over 52,000 businesses in Australia and 2% of all Australian businesses, employing 2.5 million people.

  • So, in summary, SMEs comprise 99% of all Australian businesses and employ almost 50% of all Australian workers! Wow!
